From $0 to $10k/mo in 21 weeks…

Today I officially started my journey towards the ultimate $10k/month goal. The money itself is already a remarkable landmark, but reaching it in 21 weeks?

I mean, I’m sure there are a lot of folks out there that can manage to do it with one hand tied behind their back. A fellow member of a community I’m in is proof of it. He said “Damn. 4 years to go to $9k/mo? You can get there in 4 MONTHS.”

And I believe him. Today on X I saw a guy claiming he makes $90k/day.

Dayumn.

That’s why I started to reflect on the apparently near-impossible goal I set for myself.

“Why nearly impossible?”, you may ask.

I consider it that way because I have no experience. I never built a business before. All my work experiences were outside the writing/advertising niches.

And because of that, gentlemen, I have no freaking clue as to where I should go or what I should do.

I’m literally following my heart. The only clues I currently have are:

1. I must write every day. It’s the best way to improve quickly.
2. Of course, enjoy the process.

And I must admit, it’s been very fun to write this first email. I’m eager to see how much I’m going to improve after daily writing for 1 month, 1 year, 1 century (maybe God’s willing to let me live to be 123 years old. Who knows?).

But how can I fix this lack of direction? After all, I particularly wouldn’t like to keep myself in the dark for the following days. Time’s not on my side 😅.

I think the best way to overcome this initial problem is by defining my OKRAs.

“And what in the heavens is an ‘OKRA’, Daniel Costa?”

Relax, buddy. I’m gonna tell you right now.

OKRA is something I learned from my biggest reference inside this email based business, master Alin Dragu, the goat of email marketing.

But let’s address the elephant in the room.

OKRA means:

Objective

Key Results

Actionables

Basically, in order to transform your hobby into a real business, you need to make those things crystal clear.

In my case, my objective is to reach $10k/mo in the next 21 weeks so I can enjoy the amazing privileges to make this amount of money while living in Brazil (you can live like a king here if you make this much, my dear friend 😈).

The key results would be:

1. 1000 subscribers to my email list
2. Of course, $10k in MRR
3. 1000 followers on X

And finally, the actionables. I’ll briefly explain this part because unlike the other two, this one isn’t self-explanatory.

Here, you want to register what exactly you need to do in order to achieve the key results, and consequently, the objective. To exemplify, let me show you my case:

1. To write 1 email and 1 post for X every day for the rest of my life
2. To create an exciting lead magnet. Something so good and useful that people will feel like stealing from me for not paying for it.
3. To land freelance gigs and get testimonials, so I can increase the amount I charge.
4. (This part is not even for the money. I know that if I land a job like this, the amount of knowledge I will get will far surpass the potential payment. And knowledge IS money.)

I think that after defining those points, I’m a little less lost in this journey. That’s the power of having a clear north.

Of course, I still need to arrange a few things related to my brand and freelance career.

But I won’t let these details stop my flow.

That’s why I want to start doing outreach tomorrow. I don’t care if things aren’t 100% ready.
